Ok so if you live in Australia you would of heard of this great new show called underbelly, its based around the underworld killings that happened many years ago in melbourne that caused a 10 year war, ofcourse its been dramatised to make the end effect more entertaining.
About 3 days ago a judge made a ruleing that in the state of victoria the series should not be aired because of a new court case that is about to begin, that directly relates to characters that are portrayed in this series. WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH, the judge assumed that if the series aired on tv the jury and the public would follow on what the series depicts and take it as a true account of what happened.
Personally i think that if you believe a dramatisation of anything then you are stupid and gullible, i think we live a society now where people can differentiate between what is real and what is being made up, even if it is a close account of what really happened. And even once this trial goes to air the rest of the country will know whats going on, and the news will telecast what is happening, and during the trial oppinions of media representatives will be aired over the country, and no amount of hushing underbelly will do anygood.
Also with thanks to people in other states you can view the 2 hour premier of underbelly via torrent files.
I just think that its a waste of time and effort in banning material being viewed. We live in a democratic country that should allowed the freedom of speach and not try to silence any1. Even if it is for just a tv show.

This is one of the biggest gripes that I have with Australian Government - they believe that they can choose what is best for its citizens without consulting them in any way - asif they are petulant children who do not know what is good for them. I grew up in the turbulent political arena of South Africa, where no new law or decree by the government is ever left unquestioned or untested. When the new WorkChoices were brought into the workplace I was expecting massive strike actions, that the good people of Australia would stand on their hind legs and kick up a huge stink - but for months nothing happened. There was one piddling little strike - a 2 hour march by the unions. I was disgusted by the disinterest of the people. What I'm trying to say is - yes, the fact that the series was banned in Victoria even before it was aired was crap and the reasons they gave for banning it was, as you said, crap - so what if it is loosely based on some real life event 10 years ago - so was the X-Files, CSI, Stander, Chopper and Bowling in Columbine - but you don't see them being banned because someone may or may not be influenced by what they see. If the legal system was so concerened that TV might influence people's decisionmaking then why the hell, do they allow tv commercials? Fact is that this has happened because in the past the Australian people have let the government/legal system decide what is good for them, most of the times in small and unobtusive issues. What they don't realise is that each time this sets a precedent - a legal foot in the door. Take the instances of the new copyright laws that completly eradicates the need for motive to convict someone and jail/fine them. And then there is the law that they are trying to push through which makes it illegal for parents to smoke in their own car when they have children with them - it may seem innocent enough, but this is your car, your personal property which no one has any right to. What is next - your house, your body, your thoughts? And don't forget these crazy new anti terrorism laws - Australia has no terrorist problem whatsoever - and still the government has given itself the right to access your home, take your stuff and hold you and your family without being charged, without the right to legal advice for an unlimited time. This is supposed to be a land of free speech, is it not - so I totally disagree with this insane ruling. Will it be unbanned after this so called trail? How long will this trail take? It does not make sense at all as you can still get the show off the internet. The legal system has definetly stepped accross the line.

Look Australia has been under the thumb for many many years, they dont have the balls to stand up and fight, and i think its like the only country in the world that acts this way, in most developed countrys when something like Workchoices is trying to be introduced, not only do they go on strike but they make sure the goverment notice, here they march for 2 shitty hours and call it a strike. It is by far a country that is truly run by its goverment with people being treated like slaves, its almost communist. But now with the new goverment maybe a change is on the horizon.
BTW i saw underbelly and it is fantastic, even if your not from australia, do yourself a favour and download it and have a look, you wont be disapointed.

It is by far a country that is truly run by its goverment with people being treated like slaves, its almost communist. But now with the new goverment maybe a change is on the horizon Wow! At long last someone who agrees with me. My hb looks at me asif I've grown a second head if I tell him these things. I think that most people here do not actually know what true freedom is, and only find out when they leave the country and live somewhere else where they are not treated like an ant which exists only to ensure the safety and well being of the nest, but who is totaly expendable and interchangeable. The last government took a leaf out of China's book - and people don't even realise that not a free and lucky as the government wants them to believe. I mean - when I told my friend in the UK that it is illegal for me to wash my own dog in my own home, she was horrified. How can people the good people of Australia let themselves be bullied this way. Even the Kiwi's don't take *c'jit* from their government, if things don't suit them, they leave. Nobody does anything when something happens that impacts them negatively, but if I - an immigrant - dares to say something, I get told to bugger back off to my own country - which I actually wish I could, the only thing stopping me is the fear of joblessness, rape, murder and racial percecution by a black majority openly chanting "kill a boer (that's us), kill a farmer", "hand me my machine gun" and "push the white man into the sea". But I'm digressing... I honestly think that the government is using the legal system to fulfill it's own agenda in controlling the population. The fact that a television program has been banned in a state when it is still available in all the other states in this country is ridiculous - even Micky Mousey. If they had left it, the usual amount of people would have watched it, but now that it has been banned, so many more are going to try and get to see it to find out what is in the programme that is so "sensitive" - it makes me want to laugh.

Ive heard south africa can be like that, very hostile and negative country. You do make valid points because even ive had the "if you dont like it go home" treatment, which i always laugh at because really this place belongs to the abo's and not the convict poms who came here. The truth is this, the british empire wherever it has gone has almost distoryed it and bastardised it, and even here its clear to see what they did and what they are still doing, and it reflects in their politics, the people came here as convicts, and they are treated like convicts, and if they dare make a fuss about anything they are either neglected, or they are punished and treated like 2nd rate citizens. Australia is a fine country but it leaves alot to be desired.
Anyway watch underbelly ive seen the two hour opening like 4 times now!
