Hope there wasn't another thread on this subject. I done a search and found none. So I thought that I would start one. I also started one over at avpgalaxy.net and find it interesting. Although we all grew up originally watching most VHS movies in full screen format, now many DVDs are available in widescreen format which preserves the original theatrical composition. I myself prefer widescreen. Besides, if I don't like the black bars, I can just zoom in using my remote control and get rid of them. I voted for widescreen. Note: If you don't understand aspect ratios, please visit the website linked below before you vote. Thanks. events.hometheaterforum.com/home/wsfaq.html

Although I grew up with Full screen on VHS tapes, I'd also have to go with Wide screen.
I remember when DVDs were first being released, my parents hated picking up a film with Wide screen as the optical format. I too hated this as for the majority of my life up until that point Full Screen was the norm. Then all of a sudden I have these black bars underneath the , what used to be occupied, screen. That was at first distracting and annoying.
Eventually though as VHS was phased out and DVDs phased in. I began to get used to the Wide screen format. An now I look back on that time and wonder why I preferred that tightly packed FS screen format to the roaming and spacious WS format.
Also you get a better aspect ratio than with Full screen. That's my opinion anyway.

Personally, I watch a lot of movies, and I mostly prefer fullscreen. I don't mind widescreen, I like it more in some cases, it gets better picture sometimes which is necessary with more special effects-laden films. But, I still think I like fullscreen more, it's a more immersing experience for me.

I got widescreen tvs so of course I prefer widescreen. I really don't mind full screen but with widescreen I get to see things like they were originally meant to be seen at a theater.
