Hi, I am investigating on a possible copyright violation on DeviantART.com and therefore it would be very helpful if anyone could name the author of the "Wristblade Attack" rendering here. There is a water mark on the image but I cannot decipher it "Albo..."? Thank you in advance! Canis Lupus

Do you mean someone actually posted this on deviantart and claimed it for their own? Pmsl! - that is quality. Kudos goes the to the guy who posted it for having the balls to rip off one of Fox's images and claim it as their own, but it wasn't exactly smart. I digress, Sorry Canine - not sure who it is.
EDIt : The image is from AVP on the PS2 - crap game but some good images.

Yes, here's the link to the image posted: www.deviantart.com/view/30287316/I have already requested a wireframe but before I report a policy violation I wanna be sure that it's justified.

You get low-lying slimy stealers everywhere you go.
I know that's an official image, but I don't know what it was made for. But I know it was for one of the video games. Chances are if you look up the video games and check out the artwork done on it, you might get a name.
But I don't think you need a name since this stealing is so damn obvious. If he can't provide proof that he did this himself (ie a frame) then he is caught red handed. It just looks too close to the original to just be a simple story of a 3D artist who was trying to re-create an original.

Now this is an interesting one... but I'm wondering, perhaps the violation is mine? I discovered that picture in many areas on the net (I don't know who created it either) and I guessed it was public domain, and put it in the Images gallery. hmm... So if any more information comes to light, I'll be happy to sort it out... and if there's some other fool who's trying to pass off the image as his own, I'd be happy to hear that story too

I discovered that picture in many areas on the net (I don't know who created it either) and I guessed it was public domain, and put it in the Images gallery. hmm... No, Joker. You are not in the wrong. Companies like Fox (and of course the artist paid to make the image) are only concerned with the people mentioned in this thread who claim property that it not theirs. Now, if this guy said in his devart comments "Look at this awesome image! But I didn't make it!" then there wouldn't be a problem in the first place. Your site is non-profit, right Joker? Any money you get from donations goes back into the site, not into your pocket, I am assuming. It's a grey line but Fox would be biting the huge fandom hand if they decided to sue or send a C&D letter to a fan like you who puts such an image on their site but gains no money from it, nor do they claim they made it.

Phew Nah, no profit here... I don't think the donations would even cover my monthly connection fee There's definately a grey area there - but yeah, if someone says they made/created/drew something that isn't theirs, that's just... lame. Sic 'em, Canis

I just checked the link and it seems that it was deleted.
Either Canis reported the stealer, or he took it down himself when he knew he wouldn't be able to get away with it.
And the world was a better place! *rainbow*

Hm. Interesting.
Copywrite violation? Depends.
Now, it is possible that they did, indeed, draw it themselves, based off the orginal picture. So, the picture concept would not be theirs, as it'd be based off the legit thing, but the artwork would be. But that would imply that this person has a unearthly talently to perfectly duplicate every single detail flawlessly. Very unlikely. Very.
My bet is that he simply editted the orginal, cleared out the background and made it brighter, as in some poor attempt to make it look different. There is one thing that he missed that would prove this most likely accurate theory. Notice the dime-shaped hole in the upper tip in the helmet? Well, if you zoom in, and darken the image slightly, there seems to be some slight color disfiguration. It looks as though someone used the eraser tool to, quite poorly, remove that section of the picture. Looks like they missed a very, very small portion of it, which is barely noticable to the un-zoomed eye.
Now is Fox going to flip their money-hungry lids over something so small? Probably not. Someone who rips off a ancient image made by a popular, famous corp., and is actually stupid enough to think people would believe he made it, well I doubt he'd have any money the Fox guys can get a extra car off of. But hey, who knows, Fox has done a lot of crazy, and unexplained things in the past. Like taking Family Guy off their line of shows. Sick bastards.

Did you see the original this person had put up? It was just a copy of the original...not even photoshopped to spiffy it up.
You are right, FOX would probably not even know this was happening. But it's the basic principles of the entire ordeal. You wouldn't want someone to get recognition for something they didn't do?
Not only that, but it's against devART's copyright policy. Nowadays, you can't put someone else's crap on any server unless it's your own. With the big digital media copyright wars going on, webhosts are not willing to take the gamble and let some snotnose claim stuff that isn't theirs.
