I think what you see on the question is pretty straight forward. I'm learning the basics so far on the acoustic. But I am not sure if I would rather stay acoustic or play electric.

I use both. Just depends on what sound i am trying to get. It's up to you to decide which one you want to use.

I'd stick with an acoustic for now. After a while of playing acoustic, when you get good on acoustic, you will be good on electric. After you got most everything you want down, is when you should progress to electric. I do think after playing electric with a band and such, there is a thrill of playing solo acoustic. Most people just want to rock out on an electric, which I like doing just as much as the next person. But I get alot of excitement out of sitting down with an acoustic and doing some acoustic blues or fingerpicking or whatever.

Right now im teaching myself how to play accoustic. I want to learn how to play my favorite songs on it but the tabs are so hard to read. I want a electric guitar but a acoustic is a good way to start.

Well Rico, I find that a lot of people think the electric is an upgrade from the acoustic, which isn't at all true. They produce completely different sounds. For example, if you're into heavy metal and power chords you wouldn't even bother trying on an acoustics. However, if you want to play some classical or even soft blues, an acoustic will help to produce the sound you want. electric opens up new boundaries, but you need an amp, whereas an Acoustic can just be carried around with you anywhere. Also, get some advice on a good starting 'lectric. I had a guy in my class a few years back who had the sexiest Fender Strat I had ever seen but he couldn't even play Smoke on the Water after months of learning... He embarassed his sorry ass in front of an assembly at primary. You could blame it on bad amp adjustments, but his fingers were just deadweight.
And remember, you can pick up chicks just as well with either one (Ohhchacha)

It might be a tad bit more expesive, but I'd say get one that's both. I've heard of 'em, not sure if they're real. but I've heard of 'em. And you think that an acoustic than get your blood pumping? Go listen the the begining of the Nephlim Rising by Behemoth.

An acoustic/electric is meant to amplify the acoustic without a microphone. An acoustic/electric isn't going to sound like a real solidbody electric. I like messing with them though, there's some pretty cool shit you can get with a distorted acoustic.

I voted electric because I prefer the sound mainly being into metal and all plus when you play it gives off somewhat a more powerful feel. My other reason is I've rarely ever played acoustic learned on and now self teaching with an electric I think I've only played an acoustic twice but the songs I'm playing don't have the same effect when playing on acoustic as it does electric.

I voted electric. I suck equally on both but I'm in love with the sound of electric guitars. The high pitched whine gets me everytime.
