I watched Nightmare on Elm Street. It's from 1984. The graphics are crap. The plotline is weak and there's way too many slow spots. The concept's good, but needs to be tightened up. Freddy would be scary if he got a little more screen time and did like, scary stuff. Only 3 people get killed, not counting a dream sequence at the end. Only one of the deaths is at all disturbing or graphic.
The scariest part was probably the mother talking about how they killed him. "He's dead, honey, mommy killed him." Oh Sweet Mike! I would get out of that cellar as fast as I could and call the cops on HER. That was no doubt the most horrifying part. 6 out of 10 on scaryness, it was just too cheesy.
The gore score is low, too. While the scene where Tina, the first teenager died was good, it went downhill from there. The guy who got hung, no gore at all. The scene where Glen gets pulled into his bed and the blood ruptures onto the ceiling. Well, it was gory, but not overly well done. I did like the blood dripping from the ceiling later on, though. Gore gets a 5 out of 10, and only because of the first death.
The sound was very good. The scritching, the music, and Freddy's creepy laugh were all quite nice. 8 out of 10.
Considering the time it was filmed, though(the era of "Lost Boys" and "The Breakfast Club") it was pretty well done. In graphics I give it a 9.5 out of 10
Please tell me they don't go downhill from here. 7 out of 10 over all.

Man, it's been a long time since I last saw that movie and needless to say there are many things that I can't remember about it. I faintly recall the deaths scenes (the one with the bed and the blood will be forever etched into my mind) and a few points about the plot but other than that many things have been forgotten.
Though it would be unfair comparing this movie to the more recent ones. Granted they did not have the same kind of special effects and had their own criteria for horror films, so a little bit of leeway should be expected.
Nicely done overall.

Graphics are crap? Yeah, if it was made today. But this was made in 1984, with a very low budget, even! So for its time and budget, the graphics came out quite well. But thats in my opinion. I thought it had a good plot line. Remember that Wes never intended their to be any sequels, so for a movie that was meant to be a one-film only, it plot was well. Again, IMO. The concept wasnt made up. Wes is person who likes to do things that havent been done before, from what I've heard. And the concept of a dream demon was inspired by true events, while kids didnt want to sleep because they were afraid of their dreams and said they were to real, and then died in their sleep. More screentime would be nice, but he wouldnt have been as dark. Thats the joy of ANOES, they kept him dark. Around part three they gotten the light on him, so now his face wasnt in the dark and could be clearly seen. Yes, a higher kill count would have been better. But hey, whatcha gonna do? Graphic? I thought the hanging sequence looked real enough. Tina's death looked real each, floating around the room, blood going everywhere, cuts slicing across her body. Disturbing? Seeing blood gush out of bed looked pretty disturbing. Watching a young girl float around and bleed, claw marks scratching down her body, blood everywhere... well, that was beautifully disturbing.
Yeah, hearing a mother go "honey, mommy killed him" is something scary for anyone to have to hear. But cheesy? I dont see how anything could have been considered cheesy in that movie. It was orginal and new. But thats IMO.
Gore? Lets see, theres fingers getting sliced off, chest sliced open and maggots and green blood oozing out, skin on his face coming off to show his skull, a bloody kill with her being dragging across the walls and floating in the air, kicking and screaming, a bloody body bag, eels and bugs crawling out and around the corpse, wearing a face as a mask, and gallons of blood gushing out of a bed, well I guess that all isnt gory, is it? And on a side-note, I'll just like to add that I LOVED the entrance to the movie where they show him making the glove. Why? Dont know, just do... I got a Freddy-Glove fetish I guess.
It is one of my favorites, and on a personal list I would have given it a full 10. But thats me. Downhill? Well... some of the films arent all that good. Part 2, Freddy's Revenge, seemed too gay... not on Freddy's part, but just scenes seemed to have a homo feel to them. Like when Jesse said "he is inside me and he wants to take me again!" I cant explain it, you'd just have to watch it.
Part three, being my third favorite in the series, is great. Favorite part of it being where he smashed Jennifer into the tv set. "This is it, Jennifer. Your big break in TV. Welcome to Primetime, Bitch!" And then when the Freddy-Skeleton attacks. Muhaha.
Part four was alright. I loved the Junkyard scenes. Even Jason was there. Didnt like the end where he saw his reflection in the mirror and all the souls started fighting to get out of him. Small arms and heads, with even some little bodies popping out of his chest and ripping his head apart from his jaw. Quite disturbing to see happen to poor Freddy.
Part five, well, I didnt care much for it. For only one reason: the child’s acting. If not for his stupid way of 'deepening' his voice and how he tried to act evil and Freddylike, it would have been a pretty damn good movie. I did like the comic bock scenes. And where Freddy is on a skateboard. And Super Freddy!
Freddy's Dead was just wonderful. Loved the movie from beginning to end. Second favorite of the series.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare would have made my favorites, if not for three things: 1) It isnt really Freddy, just a demon trying to be Freddy. 2) The new, robotic hand claw isnt as cool as his old fashion, hand-made glove. Plus the new one has five blades. And, 3) Dillon is perhaps the worst child actor I have ever seen. Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE acting.
Freddy Vs. Jason was alright. Jason took too long to die though. He should have been killed in the dreamworld. And Lori said"welcome to my world bit!", without the CH at the end. Freddy only got to kill like one kid, but did get a lot of screen time. Awesome screen time, too. Other then those small errors, it was a pretty damn good movie... for a Versus. Loved the Shadow Freddy part. And the new makeup was awesome.
Damn, all this Freddy talk is making me forget about Kroenen and get back into my Freddy craze. Must go watch and adore the spinning blades of Kroenen again.
