HALO RPG: THE FALL OF REACH.
Reach.
Reach was the closest planet to Earth, and Humanities military and scientific capital. It was as beautiful and full of life as earth was, before humankind took it over and used it up. It’s skyscrapers touched the clouds and it’s Military defences were the best that Humankind had. It was protected by a gigantic fleet of ships, and a staggering amount of orbital defence platforms. Almost all of the SPARTAN-II supersoliders were stationed there. Almost all of humanities finest warriors, having given up their humanity to defend mankind from the Covenant. It had a legion of brave Colonial Marines that were fully willing to give their lives for their cause. It was considered unbreakable.
It WAS Unbreakable.
Now, Reach is dead.
It’s lush plains and beautiful seas are now burned and dead. It’s skyscrapers are now twisted and blackened metal ruins, ruins that the few remaining Marines are even now struggling to protect. It’s defences are all but annihilated. It’s fleet is now a fraction of it’s strength, and only a handful of it’s defence platforms are not floating space hulks, quite devoid of life. It’s SPARTANS have all but become extinct, hunted down and killed by the Covenant’s troops. And now, there is only one known one left, and he abandoned Reach in an attempt to draw the Covenant away from earth. It was unbreakable.
But that didn’t stop the Covenant from annihilating it.
But even now, even though Reach is dead… There are still a few brave soldiers fighting to take their dead planet back, and are willing to do so by any means necessary. And they may be suicidally outnumbered, outgunned and outmanuvered by the Covenant, but they are not outdone. For there is a chance that a small unit of SPARTANS, who had been delayed on their way to Reach, have just arrived in orbit.
But even so, they are so few, and the Covenant has already wiped out almost all of their comrades. But how did Reach fall? How did this proud planet allow itself to be destroyed?
Why couldn’t the SPARTANS protect it?
Let’s go back, and find out.
It is the day before the Covenant first attacked Reach, and even though those who live on it have no idea of the fateful assault that is to come, tensions are high.
For every single Spartan-II cyborg super-solider has been recalled from their places on the front line to return to reach. They have returned to receive further augmentation and to launch a highly risky and yet possibly vital mission. Their plan was to board a Covenant vessel with the improved SPARTAN-II’s and use the ship’s database to locate the Covenant home world. The Spartans have just finished receiving their upgrades and new armour and are training for their mission. The mission is to start in three days time. The ship that they are to use: the Pillar of Autumn is being loaded with supplies and equipment for the mission, and Reach is on high alert.
Aboard the massed ships of the Covenant Fleet, tensions are also high. Ships have been arriving at a Covenant outpost for the last couple of days, with the intention of attacking a nearby planet, a planet that they have recently learned is a vital planet for the Humans, and an extremely worthy prize. Talk has been going about that the crusade is going to start tomorrow. Aboard the Covenant Flagship: the Truth and Reconciliation the leaders of the fleet have gathered to discuss the final assault, and everyone is talking about the crusade, as well as the rumour that this planet has more of the legendary DEMONS (Spartans) than any other yet, and everyone is looking forward to the chance to face on in combat, and everyone wants to gain the honour of actually Killing one.
