I've only played the fourth, so that's where my vote has to be cast...

i don't know about you but when i see a resident evil game that looks challenging, and that next game is resident evil 5. the zombies run now. they're thinking dude, they're catching up on their physical methods.

Where's the first one? - granted a lot of people on here would still be in pre-school when it came out but there are still people who thought it was groundbreaking when it arrived back in '96. In fact it was the game that made me buy a memopry card. Up til then I would play and complete a game without switching off the computer, but after 7 hours in to Res 1, I relented.
Of course not saying it's the best but it certainly is in my top 3. Res 2 is the best, purely for the improvements it made on the original and the size of the game. Res 4 second for revamping the format yet keeping it an astounding improvement on the series, and 3rd Res 1, for still being the most tense and ground-breaking games out of the series, it's creation spawned the entire "survival horror" genre. Nowadays, we know we'll be fighting zombies and mutated beasts etc. Back then, you still didn't know what would appear around the next corner, and you rarely had the firepower to be prepared for the suprises that lay in store.

they forgot resident evil zero, wasn't the first but if you remember the ad's on tv it was before the mansion. it all started out on the train then to the mansion and before that-it was pure hell on earth. well the city anyway. but yeah-i have to agree that the first was ok, exept that i can't beat the first. i only finished re2, re3, and re4. code VeronicaX was the most hardest too, i got to the end of the game but couldn't beat the last boss.
