Also (and this sounds backwards) this obsession was caused by my, out of the blue for a story contest my writing group was doing, writing a Western short story, which turned into a Western novel, because I liked the idea so much. And then I needed some fuel, because I have always rejected westerns, so I started watching these movies.
You're gonna love this concept, though.
The guy in this story is part of a group of cowboys who can control the wind, so they herd clouds instead of cows and are responsible for the weather. So the MC's job is to lead the group of guys who bring the storms through Tornado Alley in the midwest. (Tornados are one of the most dangerous natural weather features, especially for their size.) And they move the clouds down south and back up into the north, so the midwest can have all its legendary thunderstorms, and then in winter, the herd of clouds drops its snow off and that's the only time he goes home to stay with his family, from the first snowfall of the year(in what will become the state of Montana) to the last snowfall of the year. Then he has to leave again.
And aside from having to work the farm alone for like- all the actual farming season, the problem this causes his wife is that, in winter they are snowed in and cut off from the rest of the town (They live way out where no one will see him coming and going from the sky) and they're happy to just be together finally, but then the other 3 seasons, as far as the whole town knows, she lives totally alone. She tells them her husband works riding the range, and they're all like "Everyone else who rides the range is gone for like, summer, or works at the big ranch outside of town, and your husband only shows up when none of us can possibly see him? Sure, lady." Which would be kind of whatever, except, the natural result of only seeing her husband a small part of the year, especially when there's not much to do and 90% of the day is spent indoors- she keeps showing up back in town with more children.
No husband, but still having children was a problem back in 1850.
And at first she just didn't want to give up the little time she had with him and struggle to go twenty miles into town and then back in 6 feet of snow, and then when the rumors started spreading, she didn't want him to feel like she'd made him look bad, or worse, to think maybe she was hooking up with someone from town. So eventually he finds out (because their oldest daughter gets to that socially aware age where girls are impossible, about 10, and tells him) And so he decides to deal with it.
So one winter he brings home a friend who he is training to take over running the cloud circuit, so he can stay with his family in the spring and prove to all these townspeople he's real. Also their daughter is getting to the age she really needs to learn what his bloodline can do, and learn to control the wind and the clouds.

Ahem... So, Alan Wake is finally getting a remaster. 'bout time, and I'm confident there'll be continuation soon, in some shape or form. I tend not to expect or even want sequels/prequels or anything more if a game can stand on its own, but with AW it was quite clear from the start that the story needs more.
Mah heart.

Only just heard about it yesterday, really fuckin’ exciting. All I want from it, is fixed facial animations. They didn’t ruin the game for me back then, but damn it’d elevate the whole thing if they could fix those. Still got my original collector’s edition sitting a few feet from me. I’ve also gotten into playing Control, the spiritual sequel-ish game from Remedy, but still got a long way to go with it, but apparently one of the DLCs is like a sequel to Alan Wake, and fans really liked it, so might have to check out soon too.

It definitely looks very promising, and it's good that they don't want to touch the game much further since it still very much holds up gameplay and storywise. I really liked the AWE expansion of Control. I think it served more as a teaser of what's to come, but nevertheless, it was still interesting on its own.

Sorry for the super late reply, much busy. Ain’t gotten further on Control sadly, but still on the radar. Wasn’t until Game pass I finally experienced that dreaded backlog Steam users have been bitchin’ about for years.
Getting back into MMOs recently though.

I feel you. I managed to finish AW the first time but got busy with all the other stuff before making it to the next playthroughs. And at the same time, there are too many other games that I would like to play/finish. So many games, so little time. A friend got me into Monster Hunter: World, which has been a real blast, but since we play together it's been a struggle trying to find time that works for both of us. I work in the mornings and am free in the evening, he tends to have evening shifts...

Maybe we should just become YouTubers, and get paid to power through our backlogs.
A buddy of mine tried getting me into that too, but I just absolutely cannot really get into JRPGs or the likes. The art styles, the 100% buttfuck insane weapons and the tropes of JRPGs always destroys any immersion I might have latched onto. I was kinda into the bagpipe, but it was just too hard and big to enjoy. The cooking animation with those weird cats was excellent though, absolutely mouth watering and making that chef's choice platter is on my bucket list.

*stares at the wall* Did everyone just get replaced by bots who string together random words?
I've gotten so old.
Even most of the gamer terms don't make sense to me anymore.

Maybe we should just become YouTubers, and get paid to power through our backlogs. Ah, the dream. If only people would still pay me when a month goes by when I don't feel like playing any games... Never played any of the other titles, and I probably wouldn't have started playing this one either without being pushed into it, but it was really worth it. But I can see many reasons why it can be a little overwhelming. Ever since I started playing, and we're now powering through the DLC, I've just been using the hammer, which is simple and powerful. Just like I always choose a greatsword or an ultra greatsword in the Souls-games. The cats are definitely one of the best things in the game! *stares at the wall* Did everyone just get replaced by bots who string together random words? I've gotten so old. Even most of the gamer terms don't make sense to me anymore. Nonsense, never too old. You just gotta get back in there.

Anyone still gaming on Xbox these days? I could do with some company. New Halo multiplayer is out for free ya know.

Although I am interested in playing CrossfireX, which apparently will be exclusively for Xbox, but I don't know if it would be worth getting a whole new console for that...

Investing in anything Xbox these days honestly seems pretty worth it, just for Game Pass alone.
But if Crossfire is going on their cloud streaming service, you might be able to just subscribe to that and stream it on your PC, without having to buy an Xbox. I think.

Will definitely consider the Game Pass if it is possible to play it that way.
In other news, the announcement was literally the first thing I saw when I woke up this morning. I lost it.

Beep beep boop beep lol. just kidding. I hear ya on that one. I feel like a grandma at this point in technology. so much so that I'm having trouble with internet terms when doing translation work for work. Wish I new more about more recent games so I could join in in the conversation. Anyways, glad to see folks are still around in here. I'll try to lurk around from time to time.

That had me way too excited. Might finally need to finish Control. I have way too many fucking games going at the moment...

By the way, is anyone at all interested in restoring the forum, as it was? I had made Michael aware that we should probably do that, but might as well check if people feel it’s necessary at this point.

I guess it wouldn't make a big difference since all the threads are still there, but it could have some nostalgia value for those randomly stopping by?

True, and that was our reasoning all along as well, just need to get Michael on it, whenever he finds the time. I'll give him a poke on Facebook one of these days. Though our traffic here ain't what it used to be. Only visitors now are 90% bots. All links older than, maybe 2012-ish, that we had out there, don't re-direct here anymore. Not even the links from Joker's sites. But it'd be the right thing to do. For some. Eventually.
