I wonder if the current state of the world would bring old members stuck in their homes back to the boards... Heh. How are things where ever you are? Kinda had some hopes set on that being true, but apparently even a pandemic can’t lure folk back here. I still lurk though.

Funnily enough the place seems even more dead now (or maybe I am imagining things?).

Really need to get my ass in gear and tell Michael to show up sometime, so we can fix the place up like it was. Not much point in it though, but feels like the right thing to do. Anyone have an opinion on what we should do with the place?

Anyone have an opinion on what we should do with the place? I guess it would be best to just return it as it was. At least then it'll still be the same place as it used to be for those who left and may stop by. Everything else is constantly changing so it would be kinda cool, but also kinda sad, to have it as a virtual museum, something that should be preserved. Funny thing, I recently got in touch with some old friends from the predator/alien scene as well, and even though the fandom for most of us has moved on, the name of our discord server still refers to those times.

Damn, it's been quiet for so long again. I even forget to check this page for a month or so every once in a while, and kind of hope there would be something new but well... How's things? Hopes/fears for 2021? I, for one, can't wait to get my hands on the remake of Demon's Souls. Should be in a few weeks. Just something to lighten up all this gloom.

We can always hope, but my magic 8 ball says “Outlook not good”. Heh, fuck that noise, I had both of those going into 2020 and it all went to hell, sure as hell ain’t gonna carry anything into 2021. Way I see it, if we wake up and haven’t died horribly, that’s a good bonus and we can just take it from there.

Really, I've never been one to have any wishes for a new year (other than some nice, new games that is) and I won't have them now either.

Why not? Sure Cyberpunk needs a bit more time to stew, but there’s plenty good games around. I’m enjoying AC Valhalla far more than I thought i would.

Games, yes. New year's wishes, no, is what I meant. Good to hear that Valhalla is good. Just watched my bf play Origins and Odyssey, and even though I am not a fan of the series, Odyssey seemed rather repetitive already. Origins seemed better to me, however. For the first time in a while, I don't have anything *new* that I am looking forward to. Demon's Souls Remake was great and looked more than amazing but I felt that some of its essence was lost in the process. Maybe it's just me. I did buy King's Field II recently for PS1 though and been more than happy playing it. There's something about those fugly graphics and clunky movement that attracts me...

Games, yes. New year's wishes, no, is what I meant. Ah fair enough. I used to love the franchise dearly, but after Black Flag i just lost it all. The last AC game I really played before Valhalla was Rogue. I did try Syndicate, but it didn’t get anything right. I did hear good things about Origins and Odyssey, they actually tried to renew the series, and take it different directions, which I appreciated. Valhalla remains quite fun, engaging in ways the classic games aren’t, but failing where the older games succeeded. Ubisoft has definitely gone into the US “woke” culture, and for me that doesn’t quite work with the AC games. Not a deal breaker or anything, but AC games always presented a fresh take on historical settings, trying at least on some levels to be accurate, but in Valhalla, it’s just “woke” enough to be silly for me. Maybe a 1/3 of characters I see and interact with seem quite clearly designed to be of Asian, Middle Eastern descent, or just straight up African people. The setting suffers from token diversity, as does media who does it just for sake of tokenism and appearing “woke”. Never heard of King’s Field, I or II, but yeah old school fugly has a certain charm about it. Xbox Game Pass is just a goddamn lifesaver in times without more major releases, if you have a PC just get it. It’s insane how many awesome games you get to try. The main draw is obviously the big titles that land there, even stuff like Read Dead 2, Control, Sea of Thieves, the new Doom, the new Doom sequel get on there, but the indies and lesser known titles are fucking brilliant. Games you’d never even think to glance twice at, suddenly just there to try, and they’re shockingly brilliant. If you ever feel a lack of good games, Game Pass, however you can get it, is totally worth it.

That's true that it's never something that is completely offputting but more often than not it's just trying to be inclusive rather than actually taking a setting, a story, or a character from group x and make it interesting on it's own. Good to know, did not really look into it before but it does sound like a pretty valid option if I ever run out of games to play! It might not be a realistic scenario any time soon but you never know. Man, did Control deliver..! All in all the game was super enjoyable but AWE offered just that glimpse of hope for AW2, or whatever they're going to be working on next, that I was hoping for.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s especially true considering the previous AC settings. No spoilers yet, still working through it, but damn it’s amazing. Just a solid game, interesting characters, great acting, and I love that it’s all set inside 1 building. I had heard rumours of AW Easter eggs and such, really really looking forward to seeing those. AW is one of my all time favorite games, it was actually the first collector’s edition of any game I bought. Year’s just startin’, plenty of time to talk yet. Also; Been in touch with Michael a bit, and we’re looking into restoring all the old categories and threads, to leave the forum as it was. Just waitin’ to hear back from him.

We may be waitin’ a while though. Haven’t heard back from him yet.
Wanna sing songs around the campfire while we wait?

I have been oddly obsessed with Westerns lately.
And I have always loved movies from the 1930's. The perfect convergence of those two subjects is that 1930's Hollywood was OBSESSED with cowboys. So I have been downing black and white cowboy movies like popcorn for the last three months.
And 1930's Westerns were the age of- the Singing Cowboy.
Everyone always talked about how lame these movies are, but have you ever actually SEEN one of them? They're not lame AT ALL.
A) They're real westerns, with the requisite saloon brawls and chasing down outlaws.
B) The heroes are BADASSES. These actors JUMPED off their horses onto other people and knocked them off their own horses. They didn't HAVE stuntmen back then. If you think falling off a horse (onto whatever rocky surface they happened to be on) isn't painful, you have certainly never done it. To top that off, they didn't get to lay around groaning, there was no cutscene, they had to IMMEDIATELY jump to their feet and do a fight scene. They had to do the thing where they walked up the center harness of a team of running horses to stop a wagon. And in order to make the audience think the characters were doing these things, the actors had to ACTUALLY DO these incredibly dangerous things. Falling under a running horse WILL do you serious injury or death. They didn't have blue screens(the predecessor to a green screen) back then. They took six actual 1000-1500 pound horses, tied them to a small wooden building on wheels, started them running 45 mph and had this actor walk along the yoke.
C) And this one impressed me a lot- The sidekicks are rarely useless morons. They're clearly a *lesser* hero, and usually they can only fight 3 guys if the main hero fights 5, or whatever, and sometimes they do silly comic relief things, but mostly they're COMPENTENT side characters.
D) These movies are more progressive in a lot of ways than movies from the 1970s. At one point one of the heroes sees the girl he likes holding a baby, and he says to his friend, "It's okay, she may be a widow, or divorced." Which was DECADES ahead of its time.
Drawback- it was 1930 and the racial tonedeafness is STAGGERING.
E) They didn't have soundtracks back then, so the people IN the movie had to sing the soundtrack, that was just all.
