The science-fiction genre is quite vast and covers many subjects. I do not feel the need to regulate content posted by users in this board, particularly in terms of censoring profanity, violence, sex, or other such matters. As such I advise all visitors to read at your own risk.
I do however request that any stories containing potentially disturbing or offensive content to include a note at the beginning of the thread to warn readers. Such a disclaimer should be the first sentence of the post, highlighted in red, and separated from the beginning of the story by a double-space. Please use such notation when the story contains profanity, detailed descriptions of violence, sexual content, or potentially offensive writings on topics such as politics, religion, etc.
Note that this is intended as a courtesy to readers, and not as a safeguard against liability issues.
e.g: This story contains profanity, detailed violence, sexual acts, racism, and criticism of religion and major social issues.
-Do not post spam
-Do not plagiarize other written works. If you intend to borrow poetry, lyrics, or other such content for use in a story, simply name the source of the work.
-If your work is fan-fiction or contains characters/settings from another work, please note as such at the beginning of the story.
-Do not post stories which are inherently erotic or pornographic in nature. Such content within a larger story is, to a reasonable degree (explicit sex and intercourse are well beyond that degree), acceptable. Stories centered around such content belong in the adult fiction board.
-Do not post stories which are illegible.
-Do not post stories which do not contain a plot (you'd be surprised).
-Check spelling and readability of your work before posting it. Grammatical errors, spelling errors, and typos are all perfectly understandable and acceptable - but a work that is absolutely filled with them to the point of incomprehensibility is not.
--------------------
Some other issues to take into account:
Do not criticize an authors post unless your criticism is intended to be constructive or otherwise helpful. In short, pointing out that a story is garbage is pointless and should not be done. Explaining why a story is garbage and doing so in a constructive manner is quite welcome.
If you cannot handle or do not wish to face criticism of your work, then either do not post it or make it known that you are seeking positive comments only.
