Warning: This brief review contains what some may consider spoilers.
As some of you may know, not only I'm a fan of the Predator movies, but I'm also a fan of the classic movie John Carpenter's The Thing. Yesterday I went to see the new movie The Thing 2011. Did I enjoy the movie? Yes and no. I always got a kick out of the flamethrowers burning THINGS in the Carpenter film, and what I liked most about the 2011 movie was there were actually more flamethrower scenes. My favorite character was one of the Norwegians named "Lars" played by Jorgen Langhelle. He done an outstanding performance. Once he found out what The Thing was capable of doing, he took things (pardon the pun) very cautiously with his flamethrower. Although the movie is supposed to be a prequel, it manages to replicate events found in the first film. I didn't expect it to be as good as the Carpenter film, but I was hoping that there would at least be more connections to the Carpenter film, but you only see a few until the very end of the movie during the credits! As far as how The Thing looked, IF there were any practical effects mixed in with CG you couldn't tell because of how fast the transformations and action all happened. The most ridiculous part of the movie is one of the THINGS looks very similar to a Face Hugger and even tries to attach itself to the face of a victim! I also didn't like the fact on how The Thing in the prequel doesn't plot or plan like in the Carpenter film, but maybe it was just learning. If you're a fan of the Carpenter film, you still might want to see this, but don't get your hopes up.
Have any of you here on The Hunted seen this movie and what did you think of it?
